Role of Social Entrepreneurs in Development of Country

What is social entrepreneur?

The concept of social entrepreneur, a familiar yet new word to many of us, can date back to last century where Gregory Dees, the author of “The Meaning of Social Entrepreneurship”, wrote that “Social entrepreneurs play the role of change agents in the social sector by adopting a mission to create and sustain social value (not just private value);recognizing and relentlessly pursuing new opportunities to serve that mission;engaging in a process of continuous innovation, adaptation, and learning;acting boldly without being limited by resources currently in hand, and exhibiting heightened accountability to the constituencies served and for the outcomes created…” Dee in his work firstly mad the roles that social entrepreneurs play and how they bring changes to the world.

Today, searching engines tell us that the word social entrepreneur refers to people who pursues novel applications that have the potential to solve community-based problems. As the world is facing the combined adverse and severe problemssuch as poverty, violence, climate change, education disparity, AIDS, Covid-19 and many more, social entrepreneurship is exploding in popularity.

Why social entrepreneurs matter?

Social entrepreneurs who make full use of the cutting-edge technologies and business strategies, along with their creative innovations, are inspired to make great changes that will improve our lives and environment. The significance of social entrepreneurship speaks out for itself.

Firstly, social entrepreneurs can bring tangible benefits to enterprises by striking a perfect balance between “doing good” and “making profits”. They search for new business opportunities and at the same time tackle with serious social problems. Unlike traditional entrepreneurs who probably largely depend on the priorities of governments or just simply stick to the tradition, social entrepreneurs are not afraid of new challenges and are willing to respond to social problems with efficiency. Additionally, social entrepreneurs needs to find funds on their own, since the enterprises don’t enjoy much government subsidies, therefore they are driven to come up with a sustainable and yet profitable way to earn money to make sure that the organizations can run smoothly and even create a virtuous cycle.

Moreover, social entrepreneurs can make tremendous contribution to the whole society, or to be more specific to the development of countries. Dees has stated that social entrepreneurs are change agents for the community. That is to say, with the help of social entrepreneurs, at least changes are being made and even sometimes miracles will happen. Social entrepreneurs are also sparing no efforts to come up with solid solutions that can make the country for the better. In some cases, sound solutions can be delivered in a way the government does not. Furthermore, what at the heart of any social entrepreneur are the spread of positive social values and meaningful social changes and they serve as the driving force for social entrepreneurs to always maximize social benefits and find unique ways of figuring out sustainable solutions to either the world and local communities.
