Despite India’s booming economy, poor do not get access to basic healthcare. Being poor and sick should not mean that one is sentenced to death. World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that almost 30% of the world population lacks access to essential medicines and the cost of pharmaceuticals is the main reason which hampers its access to the poor. Therefore, in order to pave a way for generic drugs to penetrate in rural areas in order to improve health standards of the country, Lakshyam and Enactus Ramjas initiated Project Aarogya (the state of being healthy or disease free).
Our vision is simple – bringing affordable healthcare to the doors of those who are in dire need of it, and to bridge the gap between affordable healthcare and it’s access. We want to improve health and reduce illness through patient centered quality healthcare that is accessible and seamless, comprehensive, appropriate and cost-effective; in an environment of continuous learning and relevant research.
The Aarogya healthcare centers aim at establishing retail of generic medicines in villages across Delhi – NCR. Generic medicines are those medicines which have the same chemical composition, effects and side effects, as that of branded medicines but can cost as low as 50% of its branded counterpart. This allows the poor and the destitute to afford life-saving medicines. The project is also involves Sensitization Campaigns, Health Camps, and Diagnostic Collection Centre.
Our first Aarogya Centre in Hapur, Ghaziabad has impacted 5000+ lives till now. The pharmacy setup in Ghaziabad is bringing healthcare to the doorsteps of those who need it the most. Earlier the residents had to travel kilometres to Seelampur to buy medicines. The branded medicines are often expensive, as the residents don’t have a means of transport they had to either walk a long distance in the severe weather or spend 40 rs to reach there. Basically they had to spend time and money that they did not have. They live on a daily wage and could not afford to travel for such a distance, which often forced them to live with their physical ailments. However, our pharmacy enables them to buy generic medicines that are effective at low rates.
Through the TeleSwasthya initiative of Project Aarogya, we incorporated the principles of digital technology into the sphere of health care. By means of video conferencing, the remote areas devoid of proper health care provisions, now have the residents communicating with the most proficient of doctors to discuss and have their ailments looked after, as well as receive enlightenment on the measures to be adhered to for a healthy lifestyle. All this, at the best degree of convenience they can have at their disposal.
We are proud to say that Project Aarogya has brought a positive impact in the lives of 2500+ families.
